Marble is the most beautiful and the softest. It etches with acid and stains if unsealed, so it belongs on walls, floors, bathrooms and low-use counters.
Granite is the most practical. It resists scratches, heat and stains, which is why it dominates kitchen counters and commercial flooring.
Quartzite sits between them: hard and heat resistant like granite, but with dramatic veining often mistaken for marble. It is the best all-round choice for luxury kitchens.
A good design uses all three: marble where looks matter most, quartzite at the island, granite where abuse is highest.
